West Aussie Pro Alcohol racers ready for action

It has been many years since a Group 1 Pro Alcohol round has been run at the Perth Motorplex, but this Friday and Saturday the NDRC rocks into town with a Nitro Funny Car/Top Bike/Top Doorslammer/Pro Alcohol extravaganza that will be sure to rock the local fans.

Perth has a strong base of nine Top Alcohol racers, and five are ready to run this weekend and compete to collect a Christmas tree trophy. It is hoped this will kickstart some hot local competition in the Pro Alcohol bracket, and racers are keen to participate in the NDRC Championship round here and in Tailem Bend.

The most regular racers are Nigel Johnson in his dragster who runs consistent mid fives, Danny Costello in the “Contractor” altered who laid claim to the world record for alcohol altered at 5.60 until topped recently, and Paul Carey in his altered that runs consistent 5.80’s. Joining the Pro Alcohol group is Sam Treasure who is a tough AA/A racer in the 5.7’s.

Returning to racing is previous world record holder and current ANDRA record holder Craig Glasby in his funny car who returned to familiarise himself with the car after a three-year absence last meeting in Perth. This car is a serious contender to take on Sydney driver and points leader Russell Mills in his alternative dragster.

“One advantage the local racers have is that we know this track very well” says Paul “PC” Carey. “There are times where sections of the track require special tuning to get around and we locals are good at that”.

“We all take this weekend seriously and know every racer is a possible winner. The alcohol cars are right on the limit, and overpowering the track or experiencing shake is a possibility on every run,” Cary continued.

“To be on Seven Plus TV coverage is very exciting, and we feel the support is there now for our sport. We race teams put a lot of money and effort into our race cars and are extremely passionate about alcohol racing”.

Qualifying for Pro Alcohol in on Friday night at 7.44PM and 9.15PM, with elimination rounds Saturday night at 5.54PM, 7.56PM and finals at 9.19PM.

Tickets can be purchased at Perth Motorplex website and ndrc.tv
